The Preserve button ensures that PowerPoint does not delete the Slide Master if it’s not in use. You can add another master slide with the Insert Slide Master button, or you can use the Insert Layout button to add a new layout under an existing Master. The controls are organized into specific groups with obvious functions:Įdit Master: Use this group to edit the Slide Master. The Slide Master is the topmost slide in the hierarchy and looks like the blank content slide you get when you start a fresh presentation.

The left pane displays the slide layout for your presentation. The Slide Master tab in PowerPoint has all the tools you need to control the formatting.
